This page is dedicated to the memory of the music venue in Brisbane called Birdland which was on 104 Adelaide Street in the city and it was opened on October 26th 1962 which the first show had legendary Australian singer Lonnie Lee,George Karren and The Sapphires. the resident band there were the Planets the top rock n roll group in Brisbane at that time who had been on the scene since 1959 when they were formed and had performed around brisbane as well as the Gold Coast as well as other areas around Queensland and Northern NSW. They were also the first brisbane rock group to be on the bill of the Lee Gordon Big Show which was the Fabian show @ Festival Hall on October 15th 1959 and appeared on the music show Teen Beat on QTQ 9 hosted by geoff Atkinson an disc Jockey who was on 4BC. Geoff was also the DJ at Birdland and this venue lasted for 1 year until December 20th 1963 when it had the last show there as it got knocked down and also would have many of the big names of Aussie rock at that time from people like Rob EG, Noeleen Batley, Sandy Scott, Lonnie Lee, The Dekroo Brothers, Dig Richards,Johnny Devlin etc as well as local singers like peter James, Mel and Sandy Ainsworth, Allen Griggs, Billy Thorpe and Tony Worsley(both whom would go on to great success on the national scene).
